It's just a phase we're going through

I suppose it was inevitable sooner or later - taking silly pet photos.

Stuff from the Blogisphere

My creation, originally uploaded by maylin.tan.

I found this on Emma's blog Y Lloeren. Just a bit of fun. Why not give it a whirl. Here are the rules.

The rules:

a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.

b. Using only the first page, pick an image.

c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s mosaic maker.

The Questions:

1. What is your first name?

2. What is your favorite food?

3. What high school did you go to?

4. What is your favorite color?

5. Who is your celebrity crush?

6. Favorite drink?

7. Dream vacation?

8. Favorite dessert?

9. What you want to be when you grow up?

10. What do you love most in life?

11. One word to describe you.

12. Your flickr name.

The other thing I picked up today in Blogland is this from Tutley Mutley's Blog. It is a little video on how to Navajo ply 'on the fly' on a drop spindle. That is to spin and ply all in one go. So clever, I will give it a go soon, I am fascinated by clever, elegant algorythms.

I have a couple more FO's as well.

Less than a skein of Malabrigo Worsted in Orchid. This a pattern devised by Jackie from a publicity still for the upcoming film - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I had to undo one pattern repeat as it was way to big at first. I am hoping that my niece who is Hermione's biggest fan will like one in grey (the colour in the film).

On Olympic news I am behind schedule with Rogue. I would estimate that I am about 15-20% through having done one and a half sleeves and just started the kangaroo pocket. So time to knuckle down.

Warm Hands and Feet

I have done a bit on my Olympic UFO. I have completed the pattern bit on the second sleeve of Rogue and cast on for the body and started the hem facing. I need to finish the Maalbrigo things before Friday though so I will be concentrating on them. Not necessarily a bad thing as I am waiting on some new Addi Turbos which will speed up the body (or at least make the knitting easier).

I finished the Irish Hiking Wristwarmers. If I did these again I would knit on DPN's and avoid the seaming but alot of people I know prefer knitting straight so it is good to have a sample of what can be done. The seam hardly shows with mattress stitch anyway.

Photobucket

I have been doing a lot of felting lately. Using felt I make from recycled things, which I then embroider and embellish.
The other day my much loved felt slippers literally fell of my feet. Here they are before I binned them.

So I decided to make myself a new pair. Stitching the thick felt by hand was quite strenuous but I m pleased by the result.

Photobucket

I am sure they will get bigger with wear but I could always stick them in the washing machine again to shrink them a bit.
Here are some of the bags I have made too. I think I will try needle cases next.

UFO Olympics and Malabrigo Madness

I thought it might be a good idea to sign up for the UFO Olympics on Ravelry. My UFO's are starting to get a bit out of hand - 33 at the moment!

The object is to work on an unfnished project(s) for the period between when the Olympic flame is lit to when it is dowsed - 16 days. I have declared
Rogue as my main event but hope to complete that and clear out some others from my list of WIP's!

For those who aren't familiar with the pattern, it is a hoodie with celtic cables trimming it. I initially started it year ago for my son's fiancee for her birthday at the end of August and knit one sleeve as a swatch. It fitted fine but then I got sidetracked...

Photobucket

I started stocking Malabrigo a while back to sell at some of the fairs I go to. I thought it was about time I knitted up some samples so that punters can see what the yarn comes out like. So the other day I cast on 4 one skein projects.

Irish Hiking Wristwarmers (which coincidentally is also the pattern for August in the Ravelry Mitten a Month Group)

Hermione's Cable and Eyelet Hat - this is copy of the hat worn by Hermione in 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' due to open in November. It was reverse engineered from a publicity still by Jackie and made available on her
blog.

As if I didn't already have lots of UFO's .

I am also halfway through the
chevalier mittens (February in the Mitten a month group) in gorgeous red malabrigo.

And I would like to make a bag - not sure which yet - in Stonechat maybe with some Colinette Silky Chic knitted in.

I am hoping my copy of Interweave Knits arrives soon as I rather fancy the
Dumpling Bag

I will endeavour to update my progress to my blog regularly as the next 16 days unfold.
